The GLA Trust started on the 1st November 2013 with founder schools Bishop's Cleeve Primary Academy, Rowanfield Junior School and Springbank Primary Academy. Rowanfield Infant School & Longford Park Primary Academy, a brand new academy, joined the trust in September 2017.
The creation of the GLA was a natural progression of our belief in a partnership ethos and our determination to ensure that more young people receive an exceptional education through Quality First Teaching. While we each continue to strive for this in our own settings through effective recruitment and teaching and learning policies, we have benefited from the shared capacity of expertise across the three schools that has significantly impact on the outcomes we are able to achieve.
We are very proud of how we have shared the immense expertise, talent and experience within the academy, working with schools in special measures as well as supporting schools through bespoke training. We also offer a wide range of leadership and teaching programmes.

Our vision and aims are very well matched to the ‘Education Excellence Everywhere’ (white paper) that sets out seven elements that the Government intend to pursue to deliver educational excellence everywhere:

We are a small family of schools with approximately 1200 pupils in our care.
We are looking to grow to 3000 pupils because we feel this would ensure we have capacity to achieve the ambitious vision for our MAT without becoming too big that we lose the quality of the partnerships within the organisation - the GLA is big enough to make a difference to children and yet small enough to care.

As a relatively new MAT we continue to shape our thinking and develop our practice. By welcoming new partners, this ensures we can develop fresh and new perspectives, expanding the capacity of all our professional teams. This serves to ensure that we continue to be outward facing and forward thinking, shaping future strategy together for the benefit of all our children. Retaining individual school identity and tailoring approaches to reflect characteristics and the specific needs of context is key.

We are better together! The collective capacity of the trust has a significant impact on the outstanding pupil outcomes that we achieve. This includes four NPQH qualified head teachers, two of whom are National Leaders of Education; a highly qualified non-teaching Special Educational Needs & Disability Co-ordinator (SENDCo) also a designated Specialist Leader of Education (SLE); a director of teaching and learning (designated Specialist Leader of Education), 5 further SLEs with a variety of specialisms including Initial Teacher Training and Newly Qualified Teacher support and a range of outstanding classroom teachers who are able to train and support less experience colleagues in their professional development. New schools joining the GLA can add to this capacity, providing opportunities to develop staff and add value to the organisation.

As a strategic partner of the Odyssey Teaching School, the GLA is at the forefront of the development of Initial Teacher Training programmes for Schools Direct, School to School Support, Research and Development projects to shape future ways of working and an extensive CPD offer for all Gloucestershire schools. New schools can broaden this perspective and help to add capacity to our training.

Rowanfield Junior School and Bishop’s Cleeve Primary Academy are designated National Support Schools (NNS). The GLA is regularly commissioned by the National College of School Leadership; Gloucestershire and other local authorities, individual schools and more recently the Regional Commissioner’s Office to support school improvement work across the county and beyond. Working at Arthur Dye School (now Springbank Primary academy), the GLA also has experience of successfully re-launching a ‘new’ school and managing a rapidly rising roll.

The three highly successful primary phase academies that make up this alliance are Bishop’s Cleeve Primary Academy, Rowanfield Junior School and Springbank Primary Academy, situated in the Tewkesbury or Cheltenham boroughs. We believe that the continuous improvement of all the academies in our alliance is as a direct result of highly effective partnerships within the Multi-academy Trust and with other local partnerships underpinned by our shared vision of "outstanding outcomes for all."

MAT Board Governance
The MAT board has significant and diverse expertise in delivery of: high quality education (both primary & secondary phase); school commissioning and improvement work at both Local Authority and national level, business colleagues with risk management, accountancy, consultancy and project management experience, experience in the commissioning of Nursery provision as well as Ofsted inspection at a range of levels.
This board provides the strategic direction, challenge and oversight for the academies within the trust and the GLA outreach work. Each local governing body works effectively with the MAT board and staff, pupils and parents of the school to ensure the continuing success of the individual academies. Good and outstanding schools will be able to join the strategic MAT board with representation from the Head and Chair of Governors.
